Overdue reminders
Late loans surface on the dashboard, and the borrower gets an escalating email ladder — automatically, so nobody has to remember to chase.
What counts as overdue
An open loan whose due-back moment has passed. It appears in the dashboard's overdue table (borrower, items still out, due date, days over) and is flagged in the loans list. Loans due within the next 24 hours get their own dashboard section before they tip over.
The email ladder
- SignoutCrib scans for overdue loans every 15 minutes.
- The first reminder goes out as soon as a loan passes its due-back time.
- A follow-up every 48 hours after that, as long as anything on the loan is still out.
- After 5 reminders, the emails stop — at that point it's a phone call, not another email. The dashboard keeps showing the loan until it's resolved.
Reminders go to the borrower's email from their People entry. No email on file means no reminders — the loan still shows as overdue on the dashboard. Returning everything closes the loan and ends the ladder; a partial return keeps reminders going for what's still out.
What the email says
Each reminder addresses the borrower by name and lists exactly what's still out — each item with its barcode — the original due date, and how many days late it is, with a link back to the app.
Delivery you don't babysit
Outbound mail is queued in the database and delivered by a background sender that retries failures up to 5 times, so a mail-server hiccup delays a reminder rather than losing it. Each loan tracks how many reminders it has received.
